RARE TAPESTRY CARTOON, AUBUSSON, FRANCE C. 1750
The
scene shows a couple of shepheards seated in front of a fountain,
surrounded by their sheep and other animals. There is an indistinct
signiature on the fountain.
This painting was destined to be used as a tapestry cartoon. It was
cut into four vertical panels so as to be woven on four seperate low
warp looms, in Aubusson.
Now the four panels have been joined and made into two vertical panels
on two stretchers.
It could be joined down the centre and put onto a single stretcher.
