18TH CENTURY BLUE & WHITE 'POT A ORANGER' FAÏENCE DE NEVERS

It was due to Louis XIV that Nevers became celebrated for the production of faïence. Towards the end of the 16th century he bought
Augustin Conrade a potter from Albissola near Savona in Italy, with his brothers Baptiste & Dominique they were installed in the
Château du Marais in Gimouille.
Their reputation & success was such that Nevers was confirmed as the capital of French faïence production.
