PAIR OF 19TH CENTURY TOLE AND GILT BRONZE OIL LAMPS CONVERTED TO TABLE LAMPS
Gilt bronze mounts with foliat leaf and berry and acanthus leaf decoration in relief.
Central fluted columns supported on a plinth base.
Stamped 'Lampe a Moderateur/Par Brevet d‘Invention et de Perfectionnement', known as moderator lamps, this system was
invented in 1837 by Franchot and consisted of an adjustable oil supply mechanism which replaced the more complicated Carcel mechanism.
France c.1840. Currently electrified for the UK. Shown with 20” duck egg silk shades available separately.
