Painted to look like tapestries, sometimes known as 'tapisserie des pauvres' with decorative borders, these paintings would have been part of the decoration in a large room,
fixed directly to the walls within the panelling which would have surrounded them.
They are typical of the late 18th and early 19th century, showing a romantic view of the countryside with trees, castles and buildings, fountains, bridges, animals and birds.
