IMPORTANT LATE 17TH CENTURY VERDURE TAPESTRY, NORTHERN FRANCE
Depicting an ornate garden with a central perspective view of two columns in the foreground topped with stone balls leading down a central path to a fountain in the distance. Small trees planted symmetrically line the inside of the path, with a central fruit tree, and a bird is depicted sitting on the right hand stone ball. In the two bottom corners in the foreground two large urns are filled with flowers, and on the left a wading bird stands. In the distance on both sides are bodies of water with castles close by. Trees and flowers throughout. With original border decorated with flowers and foliage and ostrich plumes in the corners. Signed A B with a fleur de lys. Northern France (Amiens/Lille?) c, 1690.
Woven in wool and silk and backed with linen. Excellent condition.
