'PIGEONS ON A ROOF', JACOBUS VICTORS (Amsterdam 1640 - 1705)
In the foreground pigeons on a roof with a town in the distance. In ornate gilt frame.
By the Dutch painter VICTORS, Jacomo or Jacobus Painter of landscapes with figures, animals, birds & farmyard scenes, typical of seventeenth-century Flemish tradition.
Victors was in Venice in 1663 but he appears to have traveled mostly in Holland. He painted birds and fowl and his work was often attributed to Hondecoeter.
Ruysdael often painted the background in his paintings.
