Depicting the moment in the biblical story where Judith arrives to see Holofernes at the moment when she finds herself in the presence of the general. She prostrates herself before him with her face to the ground but the servants lift her up. Holofernes says to her : “Take courage, woman! Have no fear in your heart! I have never harmed anyone who chose to serve Nebuchadnezzar, king of all the earth.” Judith 10-11 Judith is prominent in the centre of the tapestry whilst Holofernes extends his hand to her lifting her off the ground. Judith's maid can be seen standing behind her holding the bag which will be used to hide the head of the decapitated general.
